Fort Smith, Arkansas - June 3, 2019 - Parrot Island Waterpark is hosting a Surf-A-Thon to in- troduce their new attraction, the FlowRider® Double, and raise money for United Way of Fort Smith for local flood relief.

Surf-A-Thon participants will have the opportunity to ride Parrot Island's new attraction, the FlowRider® Double, to see how long they can surf upright. Pledges will be collected at a minimum of $1.00 per second. The top 20 surfers who earn the most money, plus 10 of their friends and family members, will be invited to a private after-hours party.

The opening day of the Surf-A-Thon is June 22. This day is designated for special guests. It will include local government officials, business owners and leaders, media personalities, and more. The general public will be able to participate in the Surf-A-Thon June 23-25.

To participate in the Surf-A-Thon, visit www.parrotislandwaterpark.com/surfparrotisland and fill out a registration form. Anyone over 48" can participate in this event. The pledge drive is happening now through June 14.

"We are very grateful to be able to utilize our new attraction, the FlowRider, to give back to the community in this way. This is going to be a very fun event that we hope will raise a lot of money for United Way of Fort Smith to help local families affected by the flood. We are so proud to be a part of a community that comes together during difficult times to help one an- other." Kyle Taylor, General Manager

Designed and engineered in Southern California by WhiteWater, the FlowRider® Double gives patrons of all ages the opportunity to experience the thrill of surfing. A thin sheet of water (approximately 3 inches) is pushed across a patented trampoline-like ride surface by use of powerful pumps. This creates an "endless wave" on which patrons can bodyboard or stand-up ride on a board that is a hybrid of a skateboard and snowboard.

The FlowRider® Double has the option of placing an inflatable divider in the middle so that two patrons can safely ride simultaneously.

Season and Day Passes are available for sale online at www.parrotislandwaterpark.com, at the Parrot Island Waterpark ticket office, located at 7300 Zero Street in Ben Geren Park Fort Smith, or by phone at 479-788-6550, Monday-Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
